The Helms Interface

The Helms Interface communicates Goods, Formula, weight and Customer data over a pulse output to an Allied system.  This is normally used for chem systems to communicate data for chem mixing and data tracking through the chem system.

CBW Mentor Software must be version 3.2 or later to support the Helms interface.  Earlier versions show an "Electronic Chemical Interface" which is not compatible with Helms.

The system uses the processor board outputs on a Mentor processor board (12 volt DC outputs) to pull in a relay on a 6 output board. Two (2) signals are needed.  One signal for clock and the other for data.  The relays are connected to the chem system inputs.

You also need three signals from the output boards in the controls on the CBW (normally under the load chute) for Transfer, Bag drop and Run.

See the instructions below for the details.  The Bag drop signal is found on connector WCH pin 5 and 6.  This is a dry contact for your use.  The transfer signal can be added using a configurable output (function) for the transfer and run signal if needed.  You can assign these signals on the normal chem output relay set and program them as needed for each formula.

You need these parts below along with a special crimper for the pins on the board connectors.  You can find the crimper on Amazon.  Look for an Iwiss SN-48B.  See the knowledge article on crimpers and electrical terminals for a view of the crimper    What are the milnor part numbers for common electrical connectors and crimpers?

You will need control cable (at least 4 conductor) to run from the Mentor processor to the Helms interface board.  We normally mount the Helms board in the right control box under the load chute. Stranded wire is best.

Older Helms interface boards used relay outputs and never boards are electronic.  You need to use a 24VDC input to the the Helms board.  This power is supplied by the chem system controller.  Polarity is important to make the electronic board function properly.
