Urethane Vee-Pack for a Single Stage Press
Do not use Loctite on this Vee-pack seal set. Loctite will actually cause leaks for the urethane seals.

DO NOT USE LOCTITE ON THIS Vee-PACK!!

This Vee-pack is a machined urethane seal.  Using Loctite to "seal" the Vee-pack will actually cause the opposite to happen. This Vee-pack needs to be installed with no clearance. The seal should neither be compressed nor "floating" in the packing gland. Adjust the shims the proper clearance and install with the V groove  open upwards. If you have a seal like the one seen below, you have a urethane Vee-pack.

The seals will grow in stack height by .080" when put into the .500" groove between the rod and head.  So, when you measure the relaxed stack, add .080" then use this as the "A" dimension in the calculation.
So, if you measure 1.750" relaxed, use 1.830" for the seal height.  If you miss this, you will over-compress the red seal and probably create another leak.

Note during installation:

The splits in the seals should be 120 to 180° from the one before it. The split on the first element should be on the opposite side of the second, the second on the opposite of the third, etc.

Do not try to place the seals into the groove one at a time. The seal will not compress properly and the ends will overlap.  This will leak if assembled.

The entire seal stack should be assembled on the rod and pushed into the groove as a whole stack.  While doing this, push the outer seal lip to the groove edge.  Then tuck the lip into the groove using a smooth piece of plastic or nylon.  After the lip is tucked in, push the seal up evenly using threaded rods and nuts.  As the next lip touches the groove lip tuck it in and continue pressing the seal pack into the groove.
