What to know when replacing a processor board
So, you just replaced a processor board and now the machine does not work.. Let's explore why.

I just replaced a processor board and the machine does not work and I may even get errors on the display.

The processor board has no eprom (personality) out of the box!

1.  The first thing to know is that the processor board has no data in it when you first take it out of the box.  You need 2 things.  First, you need software that give the board its personality.  The same board is used on multiple machines.  The software chip (that plugs into an empty socket on the board) gives the board a personality, The software makes it a washer or dryer or possibly a long list of other devices.

You must CONFIGURE a new processor board!

After you put software in the board (which you can take from the old board you removed) the machine needs some operational data.

Every machine has certain options installed and the CONFIGURATION of the machine must be entered into the processor board.  It would help if you had this data from the old board before you start replacing parts.  If you do not have this data then you must answer some questions that require some knowledge of the machine.  On washers this info is sometimes found on a config nameplate on the front of the machine showing letters A through T.  But, there are generally more decisions that need to be made in configuration.  So, having this data is very helpful.

After you get the configuration right so that it matches the machine hardware, you may need to enter formula data.  This is true for washers, dryers, single stage presses and some system devices like Older Processor versions of Miltrac and Device Master.

On Washer Extractors

So, you need the formula data for the goods you are processing. And hopefully you have a backup of that data in a written form so you can enter the data.  Some folks call the chemical guy to reprogram washer extractors after such an event.  This delays using the machine.  So, it is best to have the formula data on site so you can run immediately.

On Presses

Single Stage Presses have press codes.  They are not complicated but it would help if you had a backup of what was programmed.  Use a mobile phone camera to take screen shots. of the data pages.  Otherwise you will have to recreate the press codes by referring to the CBW programming to ascertain the press codes assigned to different formulas and then recreate press formulas in the press.

On Centrifugal Extractors

The Centrifugal Extractor has up to 16 extract formulas.  These must be programmed to match the code information of goods coming out of the CBW.  Again, get picture backups before you need the data.

On Dryers

On dryers, in a system with multiple dryers, you can use a fellow dryer to download the info to a blank board.  BUT, you must change the Miltrac and Mildata addresses and machine name in configure after the download.  You set the operating dryer to a Master and the new board to a Slave and the download. You want to match the dip switches on the board with the one you took out.

If you have PC Drynet running the dryer line, then you can upload data to the new processor from the PC.  The dip switches on the processor are critical to proper operation because this is how the PC knows what dryer to talk to.  See the article on uploading to a dryer here..  Video - Uploading Configuration using Drynet Dryer/Shuttle Controller

On Shuttles

These have over 100 configuration decisions.  If you have a PC controller.  Easy.  You upload the data.  Otherwise you have a lot of config decisions to enter, including in some case the encoder data for counting targets or positioning the laser targeting system.  A backup of the data would be great to have. Pictures can really help.

Miltrac and Device Master (and other board level system controllers)

These devices contain a lot of program data that makes them work properly.  So, you need a backup of the data you had, otherwise you must know how to recreate the system configuration which may require help from Milnor Tech Support.  In other words...BACKUP YOUR DATA...even screen shots on a mobile phone can save your day!
