This article walks through setting up Windows XP PC's for a MILNOR system network

Networking Milnor PC's (Windows XP)

1. Turn off Simple Fire Sharing

  • Open Control Panel by selecting: Start in the bottom left hand of the screen and then clicking "Control Panel"
  • Double Click on Folder Options
  • Select the "View" tab
  • Go to the bottom of the Advanced settings list and deselect "Simple File Sharing".
  • Select "OK"

2. Confirm Computer Name

  • Remaining in Control Panel. Double Click on the System Icon then Select the "Computer Name" tab.

  • Make Sure that the Computer Name is unique and applies to the PC that you are on 
    • Mildata.........................."Mildata1"
    • First Mentor.................. "Mentor1"
    • Second Mentor, etc......."Mentor2"
    • First Multitrac System...."Miltrac1"
    • Second Multitrac, etc....."Miltrac2"
 

3.  Set PC in MILNOR Workgroup

  • Confirm that the PC's are all set in the Milnor Workgroup

  • If this has to be changed, select Change - Make the updates and select OK
  • Close all boxes
 

4.  Share Computer's Hard Drive

  • Double click on Computer (My Computer) from the Desktop.
  • Right click on the C drive and select sharing and security.
A. Select "Share this folder"
B. Click once on the "New Share" button
C. Type "C Drive" as Share name
D. Click once on the Permissions button
E. Check allow for all Permissions:
           Full Control, Change, and Read.

5. Setting IP adresses

  • Go to control panel. Double click on Network Connections

  • You will see Local Area Connections and sometimes Local Area Connection 2. We recommend putting all PC's on Local Area Connection 1. It is imperative that all PC's are on the same Local Area Connection.
  • Double click on the one that is enabled

  • Select "Properties"
  • Double Click on the "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" connection listed in the items box.
  • Select "Use the following IP addresses" under the "General" tab.
  • Type in the IP address that is unique for this PC as noted in the IP address configuration guide below.
  • Check the the Subnet Mask numbers match on all PCs.

  • Select OK

6. Make sure the Firewall is turned OFF:

  • In the Local Area Connections box, select the "Advanced" tab
  • Select "Settings" and make sure Firewall is turned OFF.
  • Select OK and close all boxes
