This article walks through setting up Windows 7 PC's for a MILNOR system network

Networking Milnor PC's (Windows 7)

1. Confirm Computer Name and Workgroup

  • Click the Windows button in the bottom left of the screen and then click in "Control Panel".

  • Select "System" from the Control Panel menu.

  • Check to see if the Computer Name is the unique name that it should be. If not, click "Change Settings" to alter the name.
    • Mildata.........................."Mildata1"
    • First Mentor.................. "Mentor1"
    • Second Mentor, etc......."Mentor2"
    • First Multitrac System...."Miltrac1"
    • Second Multitrac, etc....."Miltrac2"

  • Check to see if the Full Computer Name is accurate and that the Workgroup is MILNOR.

  • Click the "Change" button to edit the Computer Name and Workgroup if necessary

  • Type the correct PC name and MILNOR as the Workgroup if necessary.

2. Share Computer's Hard Drive 

  • Select start and go to "Computer".
  • Right click on the "C" drive

  • Select on "Share with" from the menu

  • Click on "Advanced Sharing..."

  • Choose the "Advanced Sharing Button"

  • Click "Add"

  • Enter "C Drive" into the Share name field. Click the permissions button and allow access for full control, change, read

  • Click "Apply" and then OK to exit windows

3. Setting IP adresses

  • Go to control panel. View by "Small Icons". Double click on Network Connections

  • You will see Local Area Connections and sometimes Local Area Connection 2. We recommend putting all PC's on Local Area Connection 1. It is imperative that all PC's are on the same Local Area Connection.
  • Double click on the one that is enabled

  • Select "Properties"

  • Double Click on the "Internet Protocol (TCP/IPv4)" connection listed in the items box.

  • Select "Use the following IP addresses" under the "General" tab.
  • Type in the IP address that is unique for this PC as noted in the IP address configuration guide below.
  • Check the the Subnet Mask numbers match on all PCs.
