CBW - Chain Oiler System
Milnor CBWs use an automated chain oiling system. The oiling system is important to the health of your tunnel. Setting the air pressure, angle of the oil flow and the verify operation is critical to keeping your CBW turning.
The Milnor CBW uses chain to connect the cylinder to the drive system. These chains need to be lubricated.

Error "Oil Level Low" on a CBW

This error occurs when the amount of chain lubricant in the reservoir falls below a low-level set point. When this error occurs, add Milnor Chain Lubricant immediately, part number 20H000A.

Chains fail due to wear!

Most chains fail due to a lubrication failure, not a load issue. And, despite popular belief, chains do not stretch! chains get longer due to wear between the pin and the bushing. The anatomy of a roller chain will show that the pin to bushing and bushing to roller is where the wear occurs and mostly due to a lack of lubrication.

Get great chain lube!

Milnor uses a chain lubricant that has a viscosity similar to mineral spirits. This allows for great atomization and flow to the right areas of the chain. It is not oil; it is a lubricant. Customers also apply this elsewhere around the laundry with rave results. The lubricant part number is 20H000A for a 5 gallon bucket.

Chain Anatomy

The inside link of the chain is swaged to the bushing. So, no lube can get to the pin from the outside of the bushing. You must get the lube into the side plate to bushing gap.

Fix the leaks!

In addition, any water leaking onto the chain is BAD! Remember that the wash bat has detergent which washes off lubricants. So, prevent leaks by maintaining the inter-module seals.

Point the nozzles properly!

The oiler nozzles must be pointed at these points below marked LUBE.

Older machines had nozzles on the large sprocket. Newer models move the nozzle to the small sprocket so the perfect alignment can be accomplished. At the large sprocket, cylinder runout prevents perfect nozzle alignment.

Set Pressure properly!

When oiling 2 chains, pressure should be set to 40PSI. When oiling 4 chains, pressure should be set to 50PSI. This is necessary for proper dispersal of the oil to each chain.

Pin Wear

This is caused by a lubrication problem at the pin to bushing.

Swaged Bushing

Note that the bushing is solid and swaged into the link. So the only way to get lubrication to it is between the side plates and onto the pin.

Low Oil Level in CBW® with Alemite Lubrication Mist System and Component Part Information

There is a low level switch in the oil distribution system on a CBW®. This switch makes an input to the CBW® Controller. If made the CBW® will not transfer. Fill the system with Milnor® Chain Lubricant.

There is a breakdown of the parts that make up this oiler from Alemite in the attached Service Guide and this part can be purchased.
