Fixing "Open Port Failed." Error
Open Port failed on Device Master (Could happen on other Milnor Software). This happens when the software is looking for a port that is already being used by another software. This article describes how to fix this issue.
Open Port Failed Error:

This error can occur on other software too and the fix is the same except you will be changing settings for the software you are having this problems with instead of Device Master.
This error occurs when the software has the wrong port programmed. This is fixed in the registry.
 

Locate and change the registry port setting for the software

  • Access the the registry by searching "Regedit" in your windows search.
  • Double click folders to open them. Open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/WOW6432NODE/MILNOR/DEVICEMASTER/SYSTEM
  • Right click on the "SerialComPort" and select "Modify"

  • Change the Value Data to 6 for the COM6 port

  • Select "OK" and exit
  • You will have to restart the PC for any registry changes to take place.
