Eclipse combustion air wings on Air Heat burners
These pics show used burners from the burner box side. You can see some cracking of the combustion air diffuser screens (known as "wings") that will disturb the air over the burner. However, the burner will still burn with the cracks shown. If the wings are damaged with large chunks missing then you need to change the wings. large cracks in the wings shown in one pic below require replacement.
The reason for wing damaged is the lack of combustion air. So, cleaning the combustion blower wheel and rear diffuser plate (internal to the green box and behind the burner) will prevent the damage.
This next picture is interesting. The wings are damaged and require replacement but the bigger issue is that the burner ports are clogged. You can fix this by drilling out the ports. The zoomed in pic will show the ports clogged with debris from the gas. We have seen this problem on multiple occasions.
Look at the burner ports closely. See the deposits in the small center holes. These need to be drilled out with a bit of the same size as the original hole, not larger.
Replacing the wings
The wings are part number 25AB242W. You will normally need more than one wing for repairs. There are many pop rivets to connect these parts and the repair is a complete disassembly of the burner on the bench. You will need new stainless pop rivets.
Each pop rivets needed are 1/8" by 1/4" long. Each wing typically needs 11 rivets. The image above, with 8 wings per burner, requires 64 rivets. Grab these from your local hardware store.
