Dryer Blower Motor Replacement
Replacing the blower motor can be cumbersome, but John Hughes has come up with a great bracket to help with the process.

Motor Jib Crane

First, we want to thank John Hughes for the design of this fixture.

This is a 2 part design.  The lower is the socket for the upper 90 degree pipe weldment.  He used a larger diameter pipe for the bottom, which he cut out of some scrap ETtech rail, so the upper swing arm can pivot in the lower pipe.  The upper pivoting section has an eye bolt but a strap and stop bolt could be used to stop the come along from slipping off.  He put a stop collar on the upper pipe to allow for a smooth pivot in the lower support tube.  .

The lower part has two welded tabs for bolting to the motor mount plate.

Note: the top tab lands on an existing hole, and the lower tab will need holes drilled.

Motor Removal

  1. Bolt the jib to the motor mount as shown below.
  2. Mount a chain fall or other hoist above the dryer blower motor.
  3. Connect the chain fall or come along to the jib.
  4. Remove the bolts securing the motor mount plate.
Note: 2 bolts securing the motor will be removed at this point. Secure the upper section of the motor with a ratchet strap.
  5. Raise the motor with the hoist.
  6. Swing over to  the dryer side and lower the motor to the floor.
  7. Reverse the order for the installation.
