CBW Mentor Installation on a PC or laptop.
In the past the Mentor software used the Windows registry for config details.
After version 4 of Mentor this config information is stored in a file rather than the registry. The startup of Mentor is affected by the details in this file.
For example, for chemist use on a laptop, the file needs to be configured as a Simulator or Programmer. On a working Mentor controlling the CBW, the file needs to be configured to a Controller.
To add confusion, the registry setting is still populated and can be confusing even as it has no effect on the operation.
To fix the boot-up functionality you must modify the file called mentorcfg.xml with the notepad editor in Windows. Any fat fingers will make the file unreadable, so be careful.
The file location is shown in the second picture inset.
You can use Controller, Programmer, or Simulator as valid entries.
The file is found in C:\Programfiles(x86)\Milnor\Mentor.
If a machine starts in Controller mode the PC expects a processor board communication and if not found the software will abort and shut down the Mentor application on the PC.
