Burkert Angle Body Valve - Steam or Water
Both valves are very similar in function but are plumbed in opposite directions.
Below is a cutaway view of the Burkert angle body valves that can be found on Milnor washers, dryers and CBW's.

One key to remember is the direction of flow. The flow of water through the valve would be opposite of steam flowing through a similar valve.

In steam valves the pressure is increased on the closed seat with steam pressure.  The flow in the picture below would be from the top of the body to the bottom.

In water applications the water would move from the bottom of the body to the top (in the picture below). This flow path reduces water hammer of the water slamming the seat closed.

Water and steam valves use different springs.  So, differing part numbers are used for water and steam valves. The flow direction arrow is shown correctly on the proper part numbers.
