Inverter Braking Systems - Brake Resistors and Overloads
Brake resistor and overload part numbers for machines that use dynamic braking to slow machines. Energy from the slowing motor is transferred to the inverter and dissipated using braking resistors.
There are 3 types of braking systems used with Milnor washer-extractors and centrifugal extractors. These are disc brakes, drum brakes, and brake resistor/inverter braking systems.
This article focuses on dynamic braking systems. Some machines use the inverter only to convert the energy generated from slowing motors. Other machines require braking resistors and an appropriate overload to dissipate energy that the inverter cannot absorb. A DC bus overvoltage error will occur if the inverter cannot take the energy from the motor without raising the DC bus voltage.
The part numbers referenced on this page are three resistors, 100 Ohm (adjustable), 50 Ohm, and 10 Ohm, a thermostat, and an overload relay. There is also a bracket (09MV10DBBK) recommended sold with part numbers 09MV050REV and 09MV100RES.
If you need the inverter part number, retrieve the CIMR number from your inverter and use the knowledge article link to get the Milnor part number. What is the part number for my Yaskawa inverter?
