Tightening the Chain on a G3 CBW
The procedure for adjusting the chains on the G3 tunnel

The procedure for adjusting the chains on the G3 tunnel is as follows:

  1. Disconnect the Omega coupling connecting the input shafts of the two sections.
  2. Loosen both of the tensioners so they do not push on the chain.
  3. Loosen the four gear reducer bolts.
  4. Insert a large pry bar under the input shaft and over the output shaft of the gear reducer and pull the slack out of the chain.  The chain should not be banjo string tight!  Allow approximately 1 inch of slack in the slack side of the chain.
Note: This is easier if the machine is empty.

  5. Tighten the gear reducer bolts.
  6. Adjust the tensioners so they each have one inch of tension loading on the chain.
Note: If there is not enough adjustment in the gear reducer then the chain is worn and should be replaced.  If the chain rides up the large sprocket while running, replace the chain.  Worn chains cause sprocket wear which increases maintenance cost!
  7. Check the TDC bolt in the sprocket and confirm alignment before connecting the couplings.  Reconnect the Omega coupling and be sure to keep the two sections aligned.
